What is the best orientation for an island?
Once a designer you have determined that an island would fit into your kitchen, they should next see the island orientation in space intended. This depends on a number of factors, including access routes, location of windows and, most importantly, the shape and size of the room.
For example, if your room is rectangular and you want a rectangular island, this will usually follow the same orientation as the room, with the longest edge parallel to the longest wall. Of course, you can position the island perpendicular to the wall again, but this would considerably limit the size of the island you can have.

how big should it be?
The size your island is the next important consideration. The length and depth of the island varies depending on how you plan to use them, but generally they are a platform for the sink or stove.
Approximately 80% of our clients put the hob on the island so that they can face into the room, and the family or guests, while cooking. To allow the hob, the ideal size of an island is between 2.4m and 3m long, and about 1m to 1.2m wide. The minimum size is 2.2 million that could be long x 1m wide; less and work surfaces will be too small.
It is important to note that for a continuous piece of work table without joining, you may need to reduce the size of your intended island, depending on the size of the worktop sheet provided. standard size for most materials the solid rock of 3m x 1.35m, although in quartz range from the largest size available is a jumbo 3.2m x 1.14m. What bigger than this and you will need two desks, with the resulting join. Alternatively, materials such as Corian (photos) can be joined seamlessly, even though they are more expensive options as a result.

What is the best type of worktop for an island?
rather than trying to hide the join work desk, a different solution is to create a distinguishing feature of it. This is often achieved through mix and match different materials. For example, you may have a quartz 3m contrast with breakfast bar, wood or butcher block at one end of the work table.
Another option is to increase the surface area by the kitchen table insetting worktop contrasting color or material, such as in this kitchen. This extends beyond the island, and creating additional seating area at the height of your choice.
Similarly, if you want to extend an island in the whole room, you might fall from a height to the table next to the kitchen table at the end. Again this could be in a different color or material of the main worktop.

Is appliances?
This boils down to personal preference and how you want to use your kitchen, but excluding equipment on an island often will make a more friendly setting. If you choose to include any equipment, it is important to get in touch as soon as possible with your builder to make sure all the plumbing and electricity are in the required position. Doing this retrospectively may prove much more expensive or, in some cases, impossible.
Appliances You might choose to your island includes a sink, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher and wine cooler. Pop-ups can also be incorporated sockets and convenient if you want to use small appliances on the island, such as blenders and juicers.

Are you want to drown?
There is a reason that 80% of the islands we install come with a stove rather than drowning, and this is one of aesthetics. By the sink, it's too easy to leave unsightly accessories vicinity - dishcloths, washing-up liquid, dish, hand soap, tea towels ... you get the idea. You do not want this to ruin the look of your new kitchen island.
However, if you want to sink in the island, there are some solutions. Some homeowners install a drawer under the sink for easy access to washing-up fixtures. Not having to bend and strain to pull them out of the closet every time encourage them to put stuff away after use.
other homeowners deliberately split-level island, so they have a raised breakfast bar behind them drowned, as illustrated. And create added depth and visual interest, it can act as a screen, obscure the view of the sink area from the other side of the kitchen.

Do you want extractor above?
When talking about the island, many clients tell us that they would be happy to include stove, but they do not want an extractor fan hanging from their ceiling.
So how to get around it? Well, there are several different options. The most popular solution is the ceiling flush-mounted extractor. Contrary to popular belief, in most cases this is not actually mounted to the ceiling, because the body and chassis of this machine is about 300mm deep, while the normal ceiling is about 250mm deep. So to adjust we must build a ceiling bulkhead architecture same size as the island, like the one in this kitchen. We recess into an extractor fan.
As a bulkhead can be used to hide the feeds lighting, also provides an opportunity for some extra layers of light in the room.

Do you want downdraft extractor?
other choice for island extractor fan is to have a 'pop-up' or downdraft extractor, which rose from the desk at the push of a button. When it is used, it rises from the worktop, but w hen closed, it really flush.
As well as providing light and filtration systems, extractor also acts as a splatter guard, which is helpful if you have people who sit behind the island.

Should the island including a seat?
Many homeowners want to include a seat on their island, because it makes for a social setting, as well as providing practical space for working or eating. Typically, the islands are rectangular in shape, with a seat on one of the shorter sides, over the entire length back, or a combination of both.
Ensure sufficient space for seating on the island you are important. In general, we will enable 50-60cm width from the edge of the worktop to the back benches, and 30 cm of space for an adult's knee average sized. 3m on an island, this dimension will allow for 4-6 seats, depending on your choice of feces. Some benches have backs that are very small and narrow body, while the other has a large wingbacks, which prohibits more than four stools at an island of the same size.

How design can make sure it works for family life?
a lot of our seating designs for the islands is intended for children and their friends to visit. Where children are involved, you may prefer to lower the seat height of your island to allow three or four seats instead of a bench.
If the seat is intended to end an island, we generally aim to create a drop-down table of 1m x 1m, with four chairs around it. But as an alternative, some people prefer to include them down selection table along the back of an island, as described above. This creates a long table, but it is important to plan this option with caution, if it can not leave quite a small space for a cozy meal.

Will work irregular shape best?
Rectangular island has been covered quite a lot here, but the island kitchens come in many shapes and sizes.
For example, if the room is spacious enough (such as indoor 10m wide x 5m long), you can create an L-shaped layout of the kitchen is equipped with an L-shaped island Other designs include rounded islands, the island with the curve, or islands with an open shelf integrated, functional and decorative. Space allows, you can even include the two islands that face each other. With hob and sink in one on the other side, this arrangement creates a zone of intense work and focus, while still allowing others to continue around the outskirts to reach, say, oven or refrigerator.
If you're looking for something a little different, and you have the space and budget, this last idea will certainly give your kitchen some serious wow factor.
