this island is made of new oak, which has a hand-planned to give the effect of old wood. "I have oak with an attractive grain, but avoid too many knots," said Price. His team applied specialist bespoke finishes in a workshop that add nuance age.
On one side of the island is a useful drawer bank with a knife, utensils and pans. An induction cooktop sits above the cooking area and provide an alternative to the Aga.

"as the island is so big, we do not want to look like one big block of furniture," says Price. "Walking column makes it feel more open."
Column hand turn is a solid part of new oak which has also been given the old finish. They joined the wrought iron bars, that references the old tie beams.

knife drawer contains niches of various sizes, plus a hidden magnets that keep the blade in place when the drawer is opened and closed. Solid oak drawers finished off a thin rim with decorative beads.
Price says he tries to limit the amount of materials that he used in the project, so that is a feature of Portuguese marble is repeated all over the kitchen. "This is a white stone with uric very finely honed. Coffee, chocolate and soft caramel tones look very close," he said. Price deliberately chosen pieces with limited veins to keep the look soft and calm.
Behind Aga is the same marble wall. "We do not want the usual overmantel Aga," said Price. "So we decided on a great expanse of marble instead. The smooth rack set it and make sure it does not look too contemporary."

the V-groove dormitory behind the unit is the same wood used on the island, and also appears in the final panel pantry, creating a sense of cohesion.
