Chris, the main architect of the project, dismantle the existing garage (to the left in this photo) to create a well-appointed kitchen space. "We had to dig down quite a lot to get the floor level throughout, and installing a large concrete retaining wall to hold the door front garden, too," he explained.

"They like the muted colors and wood pared-down, and wanted something subtle combination of different textures. A pocket door separates the communal kitchen of a restaurant-lounge. "It is almost always open, with rooms that flow into one another, but if the owners want to have a quiet dinner, they can slide in to close the space," said Chris.

A space large utility flows in from the kitchen, accessed through the door right behind the kitchen island. The space is very similar to the kitchen, with a neat, handleless closet provides plenty of extra storage space for when the family had company. 'They are chefs sharp and sometimes entertain a lot of people, so it worked out very well have a room separate utility, "said Chris.

Chris also takes care of hard landscaping, build a patio with basalt paving that extends part way into the house. An extensive set of steps leading to the garden.
