owners' original brief to include a very large larder that included full-size refrigerator and freezer. "This is one of two major challenges in the project," said Denton. "We tried all kinds of ideas, but just could not fit all that on the wall."
The solution is to include an under-mount freezer on the island. Now, a wall closet floor to ceiling pantry contains a double (behind two first door on the left) and an integrated refrigerator.

owner determined a big island. " Part of the brief was to include a longish island, about 2.8m," said Denton. "In the end, we installed one 3.1m long. R oom is very large, so it's easy to get in and not look out of place"

a corner space that can be used to sit on one side of the storage of food. "You can not build a food storage into a corner, as you will struggle to open the door," said Denton. "We also want to adjust the low cupboard with range and it is required to come round to the room to flow."

one wall cabinet sits at one end of worktop space, close to the dining room. "The owners originally specified no closet at all," said Denton, "but as we move forward with the project, we all feel the need for only a little more storage area to serve the meal."
The reclaimed pine floors have been sanded, varnished and also filleted, a process that fills the gaps between the boards.

Floating oak shelves running around the kitchen, providing display space for the owner's collection of cookbooks and ceramics. Warm white oak break scheme and gray cold and leads the eye through the space.

Oak also been used to coat and determine the breakfast bar area of the island. Built-in design keeps it looking thoughtful and beech bench slots neatly under the kitchen table when not in use.

owners knew they wanted to sink Belfast. "A double one, too, if we can get a match," said Denton. Initially, they did not want to sink in the island. "It soon became clear that the overall kitchen designs work best, from the functional point of view, with a sink in there," he said. "Now, you have a stove, sink and refrigerator all in one small triangle."
